I had the opportunity over the weekend to visit our local Exotic Feline Rescue Center with a couple of friends. It’s sad we need a place like this, although while it might seem cruel for them to be living in enclosures, when you hear their stories, you realize this is a much better life. And once they come here…it is their forever home until they die. They actually seemed quite fat and happy. Very content with their days. I believe the staff works hard to give them as much companionship and engagement as is possible in a captive environment. None have been taken from the wild, as they were all from private breeders and owners that didn’t know what to do with them once they were no longer kits….or they were taken from very abusive situations.
I hope you enjoy the photos. I wish I could have gotten pictures without the cages…but it’s the reality of this place. They are amazing creatures and deserve so much respect.
Lioness. Beautiful girl.
She wasn’t happy we interrupted her lunch.
I love the chuffing sound tigers make when happy. This one kept chuffing and rubbing the cage.
Simba. King of the jungle. He gave us a half-hearted roar. When they do roar, your body vibrates. So much power..

While I do have quite a few action shots, I really love this picture of a little girl I saw playing in a local fountain downtown. Such sweetness. As I watched her walking in the water, looking at her feet, it reminded me of when I was young and how completely absorbed I could become with the simplest of acts. I can even remember how it felt. How the entire outside world melted away and only that one moment and action existed. I find it really difficult to do these days, I have such a busy and distracted mind……but it’s something worth trying from time to time. I think that’s why I like knitting so much. What are some of the things you like to do that give your mind a break and keep you in the present moment?

Thanks for visiting!
Today I’d like to give a shout out to a fellow-knitter. She has great ideas, is such an inspiration to me as a knitter…and it’s just fun to read about her projects! Also, it’s good to know I’m not the only obsessed knitter out there.
Cheers to anastasiamw and her blog For the Knit of It! HAPPY FRIDAY EVERYONE!
